Writing is tough.

Toddlers learn to speak just by listening to grownups, but years of schooling are not enough for most people to learn how to form a coherent paragraph. And even if you’re great at writing, it takes time.

So if you’re stuck with the writer’s block, don’t let it ruin your tenderness towards yourself and your future readers.

No matter how messy your notes are, together we can turn them into a tender composition, be it promotional copy, documents, creative writing, a speech, a_report, a treatment or a love letter.

The only thing I won’t write is coursework.

MY FAV BOOKS

The Bible of writing from the author of my favourite book of all time (The Better Angels of Our Nature), Sense of Style is the ultimate guide to all other style guides coming before and after it.

Illuminated by Pinker’s expertise in cognitive psychology and linguistics, it calls out all kinds of gibberish and inspires to allow all the time you need to polish your every phrase for the sake of undisputed clarity.

Competitive debating has been one of my greatest joys, partly because I have exercised it in the most stimulating community I’ve ever belonged to. I guess a lot of us share the ENPT – Debater personality type which is otherwise pretty rare.

In the most diffused debating format, four competing couples have only fifteen minutes to prepare 7-minutes long speeches for or against a particular statement. Each team randomly draws a role that determines its position and the order in which everyone takes the floor: Opening Government, Opening Opposition, Closing Government and Closing Opposition. Eight speeches of seven minutes fill up 56 intense minutes, after which the jury (counting from 3 to 7 members) agrees on the verdict. Winning is hard but losing is harder.

The only writing involved in debates consists of hardly legible scribbles noted down within the 15 minutes of prep time and while listening to others, preferably spread in huge letters on at least five or six A4 pages. But debating, just like writing, really boils down to thinking. Which is why tips on how to win debates are more than relevant for writing a winning text.

I love memoirs that reveal extraordinary life stories told in first person… in extraordinary writing provided by excellent ghostwriters. In this case, the book might have been actually written by the official author!
